A social media news release is press release which has been reformed to the online media world. With all the advancements in media and communcations from the internet, it is only necessary to adapt to the new world of online information.

Advantages of a social media news release is that it appeals to not only the press, but can be read by bloggers, publicist, or anyone else. It is less formal and is somewhat conversational compared to a standard press release, but can offer multimedia to buffer the message . SMNR take the social online community environment to mind, such as comment boxes, forums, and social bookmarking. Another main advantage is that it is cost effective, just as most costs done online are.

As far as disadvantages go, not everyone has become accustomed to online formats. Companies run by older generations may prefer a more classic format that is more familiarized.

Any time you are trying to maximize the amount of people who see your story would be a good time to use an Social Media News Release. Since it can still be used by the press as well as bloggers and other non-official branches of the media, the only drawback would be as mentioned before when dealing with an older audience.

There are several ways to increase the effectiveness of your SMNR. First the practitioner must think, what is it that separates an Social Media News Release from a regular release? Add as much multimedia as necessary, including images, audio, and video. When something is online is is linked all around the world, so make strong key words that will allow as many people as possible to come across your SMNR. I would advise against trying to duplicate a standard press release format; if the reader wished to read one of those than he wouldn’t be reading your SMNR. As with all news releases, the headline is crucial. If the content of your story is crucial, this is how they will see it. Interactivity is one of the greatest things going online has to offer. War on Obesity

In your opinion, do you think the efforts mentioned will be effective?
What would you suggest to implement in addition to what is discussed in the article?
Obviously not everyone reads the AJC, how can this information be distributed throughout the state?

I do not for one second believe any of these attempts will be effective. When an obese person looks in the mirror, they know they are obese and its not mystery. There is no way you can live past 10 in America and not know the negative effects of obesity(not all, but enough to know it’s bad to be obese). This is an issue of will power, self control, and personal responsibility, and the lack of these things is what led to this “epidemic”. Some people are more at risk of obesity, and probably more at risk for diabetes and other health problems. When a person knows this is true, instead of pity themselves and continue a destructive lifestyle take initiative. Its great we are trying to reduce obesity, and I think the idea is great. However, you can’t tell a drug addict to go to rehab because someone tells them they have a dangerous lifestyle. They will go to rehab on their own account and dig within themselves to do what needs to be done. I look at this situation in a similar way. The government didn’t make people obese, nor will they be the ones to end it.

If I was to suggest any other method than the ones that are discussed in the article, it would be a very simple method: truth and honesty. When I was in the 5th grade and learned about drugs and alcohol, the videos that showed all the horrible effects scared the life out of me and just about all my classmates at least for another 2-5 years. When an organization that hosted speakers at our school of drunk driving victims and all the damages it does, the effects were the same. I am not saying to scare people, I am saying to reveal the scary facts that are already a reality. The knowledge will impact people ten times what a low fat school lunch or some non important and irrelevant fitness assessment. I remember taking a fitness assessment in elementary school, and for us it was of no importance other than to see who could run a mile the fastest or do the most push ups.

As far as this information goes, unless you have been living under a rock for the last 30 years you will know obesity is a problem in this country. Although, if I was to distribute this information I believe a documentary or special on a well recognized channel explaining all the facts and what can be done by the individual, not the government, to dissolve this issue.

As you can see from my list, I like a huge variety of movies. If there is one thing in movies I really need its balance; whether its in the plot, fight scenes, and side stories. I feel like all of these movies stood out to me, and left me wishing I could just re watch it again each time I see it. Some of the movies I can relate to, some just spark my imagination or I think are really cool, but I can see these are all great movies.

Afterlife Makeovers

If I was to do public relations for Illamasqua, I would do it through funeral homes, cemeteries, cascade/receptical companies, obituaries, and other related businesses. I would not be too public with it, because a creepy or depressing shade might cloud peoples ideas on the makeover. It seems to be an idea that might take getting used to before it ever became popular, so slowly letting the idea out might be a better idea then blowing it up in peoples faces over a bleek matter.

As far as coming to the United States, I would not be too surprised. Maybe not in more conservative regions such as the south, but in more liberal and maybe glamorous regions and lifestyles it may be welcomed. There are plenty of liberals as well as conservatives, and I think thats what it would boil your audience down to. As far as demographics in economic classes, I doubt that will be as crucial as the previous lifestyle options.

Role Model

My biggest role model would have to be my grandfather. He bought our family owned shoe business from his father-in-law when he had saved up enough money, and supported his wife and all four sons. As all his sons grew up he provided them jobs which offer them and their familes very good lives. My grandfather creates a sense of family and unity amongst all my cousins aunts and uncles in a way that I believe to be more and more rare these days. We still all meet just about every Sunday for dinner, incuding my aunts uncles and cousins when they can make it, and we all just talk about our weeks and whats new about the store and anything else in our lives. Whenever I make a big decision, I consider what my grandfather would say, and whenever I need advice I hear what my grandfather has to say. He is a very generous man and one of the overall best men I have ever known.

I definitely believe the media plays a role in how people feel about themselves physically. All around the world people have different ideas of beauty, and they are all drawn from their social environment and what tells them is attractive. For example, a tribe in Asia puts metal rings around all the necks of the women; the more elongated the necks the more beautiful the woman is said to be. The media is a huge part of what we base physical attractiveness off of, especially when Hollywood celebrities show up all over the place.

As far as Public Relations goes, I would try to take whatever my target audience believes to be ideal, and then correlate all the similarities with what the media portrays as good looking.

By the time we reach our grandparents age, I think our generation will have seen many drastic changes in technology. I should hope by that time we will have discovered a much more powerful and efficient source of energy, which like gasoline, coal, and other crucial fuel sources will change the future of our advancements. One of the first things I think will go are handhelds. With all the research going on combining our human biology and technology (the Xbox Kinect for example) which puts our thoughts and movements into computer code, will merge into our every day lives no devices necessary. I do not expect to see a world full of Jetsons and flying Cadillacs, although that may one day be the case, rather an entirely new concept of transportation… but I will leave my grandkids to that idea.

I have done a countless amount of stupid, mindless things in my life. Some I got away with, others led to serious consequence. One piece of advice my grandfather has always reminded me of, is to learn from your mistakes. If you make a mistake and fall down, get back up and learn not to do it again. Learn what it is that made you fail and do something different, otherwise you will never overcome your mistake.

Tragedies happen quite often in our world. When these tragedies happen it leaves people in need, and when people are in need it is a crucial opportunity for a PR practitioner to improve it’s public image by coming to the aid of those people. There are large scale situations such as Katrina, Haiti, and the oil spill, but those could be considered as falling in the lap of the practitioner, not quite something they must go out and seize. However, constantly going out into the community and seeing where the company or client can give back is a great way to help improve the clients public image. Creating fundraisers and awareness about these situations as well as teaming up with already existing fundraisers is a great way to seize opportunites.

New Statesboro

Even since I started attending school here in the Fall of 2008, I have also seen changes. One main business strategy which I have noticed works extremely efficiently is a late night delivery service. College students with their parents credit cards tend to spend plenty of money on nights where they go out drinking till early in the morning, and businesses such as Wings Cafe, Hungry Howies, and Jimmy Johns have noticed this. I think in a college town such as this one, more businesses should come here with that in mind.

Variety is a a great thing starting to show up in Statesboro. With Olive Garden finally arriving in town, its hard not to notice there is no other option for Italian food, and college students do not always have twenty dollars to spend on a meal. Even though college students aren’t Olive Garden’s target market, doesn’t a market for college students demand for cheaper Italian food does not exist. I would love to see a smaller, family operated, solid quality restaraunt appear in statesboro in the near future.

Also, belonging to Bank of America in statesboro has been a huge inconvenience. With a large amount of people who move here and stay with that bank, I believe it would be foolish for Bank of America not to enter the Statesboro bank market.
